Job Description: AMA is currently seeking a motivated Aerospace Systems Engineering Intern to support the Liner Technology Group at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA. The selected candidate will assist with a research project focused on the development of machine learning or statistical methods for data verification and uncertainty quantification of acoustic data acquired in the Curved Duct Test Rig (CDTR), located in the Liner Technology Facility. This test rig uses an array of 128 microphones to acquire precision acoustic data. Data verification is desired to 1) identify and remove potential outliers in the data before the analysis process, and 2) indicate to tunnel operators which microphones may require a quality check. Uncertainty quantification is desired to identify how variations in microphone performance over time affect the overall quality of analyzed data. The end of the project will be a demonstration on the use of these methods. AMA is looking for applicants with entrepreneurial spirits who are organized and willing to accept responsibility. Responsibilities: The successful applicant will apply knowledge in machine learning and statistical methods to the analysis of data gathered in the Liner Technology Facility, specifically: Review machine learning and statistical methods for data analysis. Develop methodologies for anomaly detection and uncertainty quantification of acoustic data Analyze CDTR test data to refine developed methodologies. Present and communicate methodologies to internal and possible outside stakeholders. Requirements: Completion of at least 3 years of an undergraduate degree in a STEM field (Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field) Experience in Julia or Python. Desired Qualifications: Previous coursework in acoustics and aerodynamics Programming experience in C and Fortran UNIX/Linux Experience using LabVIEW Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident due to facility requirements.
