Job Description

Job Title: Art Director (Product)

Location: Sendero HQ (Non-Remote)

Department: Art & Design (dual role across Creative and Product)

Reports to: Creative Director (with strong partnership to CMO)

Summary

The Art Director (Product) leads creative development across Sendero’s product line, sitting at the center of design, product, and merchandising. This role acts as the primary connector between the Creative Director, other creative leadership, the design team, and product/merchandising leadership. The Art Director drives concept-to-product execution, ensuring that creative leadership’s vision is translated into commercially viable, brand-right products.

As both a hands-on creative and a team leader, this role balances execution with oversight—directing designers, managing freelancers, and embedding directly with Product and Merch to keep timelines, communication, and creative integrity on track. The Art Director ensures Sendero’s creative voice carries seamlessly from seasonal concepts into garments, graphics, trims, packaging, and product storytelling.

Key Responsibilities

Product Creative Leadership

  • Translate creative leadership’s vision into clear product direction, briefs, and deliverables for design teams.
  • Oversee concept development, seasonal product graphics, trims, and packaging.
  • Serve as day-to-day creative lead embedded with Product and Merch, ensuring alignment, detail capture, and follow-through.
  • Direct and mentor design staff and freelancers, providing feedback and ensuring output meets brand standards.
  • Partner with Merchandising to align product storytelling with roadmaps, research, and industry trends.
  • Ensure all creative assets for product meet execution standards for both wholesale and DTC channels.

Process + Communication

  • Own communication between Creative, Product, and Merch, ensuring nothing falls through the cracks.
  • Build and enforce seasonal calendars, checkpoints, and approval processes.
  • Establish handoff protocols for product creative, from concept to design to production.
  • Maintain strong vendor-ready files and quality control of artwork across product categories.

Execution + Throughput

  • Actively contribute to design execution (graphics, trims, packaging) while directing team output.
  • Manage multiple timelines, ensuring deadlines are hit without sacrificing creative quality.
  • Coordinate freelance work streams, keeping external partners on schedule and aligned to creative leadership’s direction.
  • Solve bottlenecks by balancing workload across the team, stepping in to execute when needed.

Team Development

  • Provide leadership and mentorship to design staff, fostering growth and accountability.
  • Identify and nurture future leadership potential within the team.
  • Partner with HR and leadership to scale the design function as product categories and sub-brands expand.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in product design, art direction, or related creative leadership roles, with a strong background in apparel.
  • Demonstrated expertise in pattern application, textile design, and product application across garments.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing concept-to-product execution, including apparel graphics, trims, packaging, and surface design.
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and manage creative teams.
  • Highly organized with excellent communication skills; able to operate cross-functionally with Product, Merch, and Operations.
  • Hands-on design ability with fluency in Adobe Creative Suite and related design tools.
  • Deep understanding of apparel production processes, including screen-printing, embroidery, textile application, and packaging.
  • Strategic thinker who can balance creative leadership’s vision with commercial and operational goals.
