POSITION SUMMARY
The Chief Financial Officer position is accountable for the administrative and financial operations of the company, including the development of a financial and operational strategy, metrics tied to that strategy, and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve company assets and report accurate financial results. Supervise, manage, support, and motivate employees performing financial reporting, accounting, billing, collections, payroll, and budgeting duties – and facilitate appropriate training and development where needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
Assist in formulating the company's future direction and supporting tactical initiatives
Monitor and direct the implementation of strategic business plans
Develop financial and tax strategies
Manage the capital request and budgeting processes
Participate in key decisions as a member of the executive management team
Maintain in-depth relations with all members of the management team
Implement operational best practices
Supervise acquisition due diligence and negotiate acquisitions
Oversee the issuance of financial information
Monitor cash balances and cash forecasts
Arrange for debt and equity financing
Maintain banking relationships
Execute Finance initiatives without approval
Work with department heads on developing budget plans
Work with human resources on developing benefit strategies keeping group insurance
Develop performance measures that support the company's strategic direction
Coordinate and direct the financial planning/forecasting, budgeting, procurement, or investment activities of all or part of an organization
Develop and maintain a complete set of guidelines, procedures, and internal controls for activities such as budget administration, cash and credit management, procurement, and accounting
Maintain current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards
Prepare or direct preparation of timely financial statement reporting and analysis, business activity reports, financial position forecasts, annual budgets, or reports required by regulatory agencies
Proactively seek and pursue opportunities to improve planning, forecasting, and reporting processes
Provide direction and assistance to other organizational units regarding accounting and budgeting policies and procedures and efficient control and utilization of financial resources
Analyze the financial details of past, present, and expected operations to identify development opportunities and areas where improvement is needed
Advise management on short-term and long-term financial objectives, policies, and actions
Monitor financial activities and details such as cash flow and reserve levels to ensure that all legal and regulatory requirements are met and that optimum returns on available resources are achieved
Evaluate needs for procurement of funds and investment of surpluses and make appropriate recommendations
Monitor and evaluate the performance of accounting and other financial staff implementing personnel actions, such as promotions and dismissals
Develop and maintain relationships with banking, insurance, and non-organizational accounting personnel to facilitate financial activities and optimize the treasury function
Receive, record, and authorize requests for disbursements in accordance with company policies and procedures
Responsible for the receipt, disbursement, banking, protection, and custody of funds, securities, and financial instruments
Conduct or coordinate audits of company accounts and financial transactions to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements and statutes
Assess return on investment for planned capital expenditures, lease/buy decisions, product development/enhancement initiatives, and sales and marketing programs – then track actual ROI to projected
EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE
The Chief Financial Officer should have a master's degree in accounting or business administration, or equivalent business experience, and 10+ years of progressively responsible experience for a major company or division of a large corporation. Should have experience in partnering with an executive team and possess a high level of written and oral communication skills. Preference will be given to candidates with an MBA in Finance and the Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designations.
CAPABILITIES/SKILLS
Extensive experience working with financial systems, especially QuickBooks
Excellent computer skills, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite (specifically Excel and Outlook), ERP systems, and QuickBooks Enterprise
Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload in order to meet deadlines in a fast-paced dynamic work environment
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, with the ability to clearly communicate
Demonstrate a proficient level of professional skills
