Safion Renewables, Inc. has an immediate opening for a Chemical Engineer at our Louisville R&D site. This position will be responsible for helping build out the company’s piloting capabilities and handle many day-to-day laboratory tasks including HPLC analysis of fermentation samples. Additionally, this position will work closely with Senior Molecular Biologist and Senior chemical engineers overseeing downstream processing to build complete end-to-end bioproduct demonstrations and execute piloting campaigns. Once protocols are developed, this position will help train manufacturing teams. Prior experience in laboratory settings is required for this position. Base pay range $100,000.00/yr - $120,000.00/yr Additional compensation types Stock options Role and Responsibilities Function as a key contributor on new customer funded projects and initiatives. Help build / change corporate culture that represents Safion’s core value at grass-root level. Assist in the development and execution of experimental fermentation optimization campaigns and demonstrations up to 300 L in scale, particularly in the downstream processing train. Mentor R&D, Quality and Engineering staff on quality by design, and productivity improvements. Work closely with the downstream processing team to produce minimum viable products for clients. Assist in purification and catalysis campaigns for the production of green low CI bio-solvents. Work with CEO to understand cost models of new and existing projects. Interact with customers on new product scale ups, and existing product complaints. Prepare and submit investment requests for new R&D capabilities in bioproduct development. Assist in project strategy development and review. Streamline laboratory operations including sample analysis and project plans. Strong scientific writing skills. Proficiency with HPLC and GC analysis methods. Qualifications B.Sc. or M.Sc. in chemical, bioengineering, or related field. 1-2+ years in applied chemical engineering in the food, pharmaceutical, or biofuel industry required. Organizational Relationships Reports directly to the organization’s CEO. Preferred Skills Good communication skills and the ability to work well with people at all levels; educational background, etc., are essential. Strong organizational skills required. Strong technical background and ability to troubleshoot and solve complex problems. Strong desire to learn new skills in large-scale fermentation and biological manufacturing.
