Job Summary This job code is to be used for internships and co-ops. It is not to be used for temporary or contract workers.
Job Description Program Overview Discover opportunities designed to set your career in motion! The Comcast internship/co-op program will help you cultivate meaningful relationships, develop strong interpersonal and business skills, gain exposure to the day-to-day operations of a Fortune 40 media and technology company, and receive mentorship opportunities to expand your professional network.
This program immerses students into the daily operation of a contemporary media and technology company while working side-by-side with Comcast's top innovators. The student becomes an integral part of the Comcast team working on creative, innovative, and thought-provoking projects within various business units.
Organization & Team Overview Comcast's Technology, Product & Experience (TPX) organization works at the intersection of media and technology. Our innovative teams are continually developing and delivering products that transform the customer experience. Within the SCAN organization (as part of TPX) resides the Sports, Commerce, and News application across Comcast and Sky for entertainment experiences for our customers.
Our team, called On-Device Commerce team, is responsible for several pieces of the commerce interface on the Comcast side. We have several applications that we support that help users subscribe to applications on devices such as Xumo Stream Boxes, Flex Boxes, and Xumo TVs. Additionally, we support a BFF (Back End for Front End) layer between the user interface and the upstream services that support the transactional flow other team's handle. Our goal is to make sure every user can access the app subscriptions available to them when they want, on the device they want to use, without issue or delay. We also support their ability to cancel, upgrade, downgrade, and sometimes bundle those subscriptions.
Role Description Are you passionate about working on high performing teams that build on device applications that millions of users will see, while getting them to their video streaming app of choice as quickly as possible? Do you like the idea of tackling big challenges with like-minded teammates who all drive towards the same goal of success and high-quality software?
As a Software Engineer Intern on the On Device Commerce team, you will get to help us with every aspect of our process and work within the team on our engineer goals and tasks. You might fix some bugs to get your feet wet, eventually you could be pair programming with seasoned engineers and getting into the best practices of our methods and contributing to our workload just like everyone else. We work in an Agile Scrum development framework so you'll begin to understand that flow, if you don't already, and there's a wide variety of opportunities in technologies you can take advantage of on our team. Our team handles both middleware and user interface engineering, so there will be opportunities to explore at least both of those platforms.
What are some interesting problems the student will work on?
In this role, you'll help us bolster our operational visibility through understanding and helping build reports for metrics and alerting. You'll also get deep into our code repositories to help us fix issues and potentially refactor larger sections of code that needs insightful updates. You can learn how to build UI screens and understand the interactions our BFF has with other upstream APIs that help build our experience. There are opportunities to get involved in most areas of engineering, testing, and test automation depending on critical needs and things you'd be interested in learning and experiencing.
Where can this student make an impact?
You'll be working with the best and brightest minds in Comcast while we roll out the subscription management applications to platforms you probably know well. Success in this role is characterized by a higher speed to market, with fewer customer-facing defects and outages as well as a sustained culture of inclusion and collaboration within our team and across teams we work with.
