POSITION OVERVIEW:

We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Director of Housekeeping to join our team and help to deliver the highest quality of service to our guests.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• The ability to staff (select and recruit qualified people), schedule, hire, and train all housekeeping personnel.
• The ability to control all departmental costs including labor, guest room supplies, and cleaning supplies, yet ensure services rendered the guests are of the highest standards.
• The ability to maintain accurate records on all housekeeping personnel and end up to date payroll records, submitting transmittal sheets to the payroll department weekly.
• The ability to establish and maintain accurate inventory records on guestroom and cleaning supplies, equipment, linens, and uniforms.
• The ability to ensure all personnel look after their equipment and treat them with proper care.
• The ability to schedule and conduct monthly staff meetings to maintain good communication and high morale standards within the department.
• The ability to establish good cleaning and preventative maintenance programs to ensure appearance of life of all furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
• The ability to establish a cleaning program maintaining top quality standards in training, performance, procedures, and productivity pertaining to all public guest areas.
• The ability to work with all departments to meet heir needs as it relates to Housekeeping.
• The ability to submit yearly capital improvement program budget to management as well as yearly budgets for labor and operating expenses with relation to occupancy forecast.
• The ability to inspect daily all areas of responsibility, maintaining the highest quality of standards. This includes public areas, guest rooms, storage areas, laundry/valet, uniform, guest and linen areas.
• The ability to work with all personnel in Housekeeping in keeping all areas in top quality to ensure the highest guest satisfaction and to meet corporate standards and policies of Taj Hotels.
• The ability to work with the Laundry and Valet Manager to maintain top quality work in all areas of hotel linens and guest and employee cleaning and laundry.
• The ability to maintain accurate ledgers and records on all housekeeping operations.
• The ability to conduct performance evaluations in accordance with hotel policies, disciplines, and make recommendations for termination of housekeeping personnel.
• The ability to coordinate the needs of any condominium/co-op owners in relation to housekeeping services.
• The ability to respond properly in any hotel emergency or safety situation.
• The ability to perform other tasks or projects as assigned by hotel management and staff.

QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS:

• Reading, writing and oral proficiency in the English language.
• Four years previous hotel management experience, including two years as an assistant manager of housekeeping.
• Experience in training.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Subtask 1: Manage the Housekeeping Office

Position: *Sitting

*Occasionally walking

Force: *Office supplies: 10 lbs. Or less

Repetitions: *Sitting, operation of computer, and answering phones occurs about 90% of the day. (Operation of the computer takes about 15 minutes per hour)

Sensory: *Speech, sight, and hearing necessary for operation of computer and telephone communication.

Subtask 2: Public areas inspection tours

Position: * Walking

* Forward bend or squatting to pick up supplies

* Carrying (unilateral traction carry)

Force: * 10-15 lbs.

Repetitions: *Walking: continuous

*Forward bend: continuous

Subtask 3: Inspect/Clean guest rooms

Position: *Standing (on tip-toe at times)

* Walking

* Head/neck neutral

* Repetitive forward bend, squatting, kneeling, half-kneeling for all cleaning tasks

* Hands/knees for cleaning bathroom and shower floor

* Repetitive shoulder motions through full range for:

Cleaning shower

Changing bedding

Reaching for pillows in closet

* Gross grasp, weight bearing on hands

* Repetitive gripping to squeeze cleaner containers

* Lifting primarily floor to table top (for trash, laundry, clean linens, bucket of supplies)

* Carrying trash and laundry to chute

* Lifting mattresses, lighter weight furniture

* Push/pull: vacuum

* Stair climbing

Force: * Heaviest item is mattress (one corner lifted at a time is about 25-30 lbs.)

* Trip force required: 25-30 lbs. In at least one hand

* Linen: 25 lbs.

* Caddy and vacuum: 25 lbs.

Repetitions: * Managers inspect rooms daily and assist in cleaning rush rooms.

Sensory: * Sight necessary to ensure everything is cleaned properly.

* Workers perform at top speed; movements are almost aerobic-like in quality; pulse may become quite high (pulse of worker during observation rose to 112 after first 20 minutes of cleaning.)
