REPORTS TO Director, Mining & Environmental

JOB OVERVIEW

The Environmental Specialist is an entry-level position that supports Clyde Companies’ environmental initiatives and ensures compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations. The position involves assisting with air and water quality monitoring, environmental permitting, and sustainability projects across the company’s mining operations, concrete batch plants, and hot mix asphalt plants.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Air Quality

  • Monitor air quality tracking software to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Assist to prepare air quality approval orders.
  • Aid in preparation of emission calculations for industrial sites.
  • Perform EPA Method 9 Opacity Certification for air quality permits.
  • Prepare air quality temporary relocation permits.
  • Review on-site permits and conduct annual evaluations.

Water Quality

  • Assist in drafting and updating water quality plans, such as SWPPP and SPCC Plans.
  • Collect and analyze water quality data, maintaining accurate records.
  • Review on-site permits and conduct annual evaluations

Waste

  • Assist in site compliance with solid waste and RCRA regulations.

Reporting

  • Prepare annual environmental reports, including
  • Air Quality Emission Inventory
  • Air Quality Compliance Certifications
  • Stormwater Discharge Monitoring
  • Toxic Release Inventory (TRI)
  • EPCRA Tier II

Training, Compliance and Coordination

  • Review and analyze monthly/quarterly water quality reports.
  • Support annual training sessions and preparation of training content.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections to verify compliance with environmental standards.
  • Assist with compliance testing, such as stack tests, UST and generator performance tests.
  • Coordinate property due diligence such as Phase I Environmental Assessments and wetland delineations.
  • Participate in annual site inspections for industry compliance.
  • Provide environmental compliance training to on-site personnel.
  • Identify opportunities to improve environmental processes and enhance sustainability.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Foundational understanding of the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and Section 404 and compliance requirements.
  • EPA Method 9 Opacity Certification.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with environmental monitoring tools is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage environmental data and documentation effectively.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with internal teams and regulatory agencies.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental/Civil Engineering, Geology or a related field.
  • 0-5 years of experience in environmental compliance, permitting, or related field.
  • Relevant internship, academic project, or coursework in environmental compliance, monitoring, or sustainability is preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to perform office tasks and manage field inspections.
  • Up to 25% travel required for site assessments and data collection.
