Well-Being & Recreation will provide a stipend, however, a tuition waiver is dependent on approval from your academic department and is not guaranteed.

Job Description


The Graduate Assistant will work with the Assistant Director of Competitive Sports and Coordinator of Competitive Sports to provide leadership, strategic planning, administration and day-to-day operations of intramural and club sports programs within the Department of Well-Being & Recreation. Primary areas of responsibility include supervision of 50 competitive sports student personnel, oversight of intramural programs, advising club sport officers and Club Sports Executive Council, and assisting in the planning of clubs and program budget. In addition, the Graduate Assistant of Competitive Sports is expected to promote and facilitate effective communication and collaboration across all efforts of the department, university and community partners.

Primary Responsibilities:

Intramural Sports - Design, develop, and implement a comprehensive collegiate competitive sports program including intramural and extramural. Interpret rules as they pertain to the policies and program offerings. Develop, promote, implement, and facilitate special events. Coordinate and monitor the eligibility and registration of all intramural/extramural entries, memberships and preparation of play. Evaluate each aspect of the areas of oversight and compile statistical data on assessment, program evaluation, participation and satisfaction

Staff - Assist with recruiting, hiring, training, supervising and evaluating student staff and provide the ability to help others set and achieve goals. Provide leadership and guidance, promoting integrity, accountability and teamwork. Advocate for awareness, understanding the diversity and inclusion of all people in Well-Being & Recreation facilities, programs, and communications. Create a culture of feedback to improve operations and services. Develop and maintain working relationships and positively influence and motivate staff.

Club Sports - Assist with administering a comprehensive Club Sports Program of 32 sports with 750 participants in a public university of over 20,000 students. Supervise, mentor, train and evaluate Club Sports and Executive Council Members. Provide direction, guidance, and training to all club sports Officers and advisors to ensure compliance with all departmental and university rules and regulations. Foster club officer leadership development and management skills/principles. Assist clubs in fundraising, budgeting, traveling, goal setting, recruiting and marketing efforts. Coordinate with nine facilities to schedule practices, special events, and home competitions. Develop training agendas for officer training intended for over 30 club officers.

Other - Actively contribute as a staff member of the Department of Well-Being & Recreation and Division of Student Affairs. Promote and facilitate effective communication and collaborative efforts across all department, divisional, university and community partners. Maintain current knowledge of the University, its environment, purpose and affairs to be prepared to respond to appropriate issues. Actively participate in professional development opportunities when available and maintain current knowledge of current trends and best practices within area of responsibility. Advocate and promote diversity and inclusion through roles and responsibilities in support of department, division, and university initiatives. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications


-Bachelor's degree in recreation, sport administration, business, or related field
-Acceptance to a Graduate program on campus
-Experience working in campus recreation specifically with intramural sports, club sports, or recreational sport programming
-First Aid, AED, and CPR certification

Preferred Qualifications


-Experience supervising, training, and evaluating staff
-Experience scheduling recreational sport programming
-Experience communicating with club sport officers or prior membership in a club sport
-Experience officiating various sports including but not limited to basketball, flag football, hockey, soccer, softball, and/or volleyball
-Certification(s) to officiate sports at the high school level or above
