Job Description

1.0 Position Summary

The Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) will be responsible for managing and coordinating all customs compliance activities for international shipments. LCB will ensure that all import/export transactions are in full compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations and other applicable government agencies.

2.0 Reporting

Reports to VP of Regulatory U.S. Operations; works 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

3.0 Essential Functions, Job Duties, and Responsibilities

  1. Classify goods according to the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS).
  2. Prepare and file customs entries for imported goods.
  3. Ensure compliance with all U.S. import/export laws and regulations.
  4. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in customs regulations and trade agreements.
  5. Liaise with U.S. Customs, freight forwarders, and government agencies (FDA, USDA, EPA, etc.).
  6. Resolve issues related to shipments, including holds, inspections, and documentation discrepancies.
  7. Maintain accurate documentation and records for audits and compliance.
  8. Provide guidance to internal teams on import/export compliance matters.
  9. Assist in post-entry corrections, protests, and binding rulings as needed.
  10. Monitor and manage the status of shipments and customs releases.
  11. Analyze data and prepare reports on import activities and compliance metrics.
  12. Performs all other duties or projects as assigned.

4.0 Education and Experience Requirements

  1. Bachelors degree (BA) from four-year college or university
  2. Valid U.S. Customs Broker License (required).
  1. Minimum 3 5 years of experience in customs brokerage or international logistics.
  2. Deep knowledge of import regulations, HTS classification, and trade compliance.
  3. Proficiency in using ACE, ABI, and other customs entry systems.
  4. Familiarity with FDA, USDA, and other Partner Government Agency (PGA) requirements.
  5. May require flexible hours during peak shipping seasons or to resolve time-sensitive issues.

5.0 Minimum Skills, Knowledge, and Ability Requirements

  1. Computer skills Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, and Windows.
  2. Strong knowledge of compliance and documentation in both ocean and air freight forwarding.
  3. Ability to collect, digest, and organize complex information and use experience to present information in an efficient and thoughtful manner with a strong attention to detail.
  4. Ability to write correspondence and to effectively present information to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  5. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  6. Ability to show passion for customer service endeavoring flawless execution.
  7. Ability to multi-task and keep up with a fast-paced environment.
  8. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  9. Ability to focus on problem solving with the ability to work with others in a fast-paced environment.
  10. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  11. Ability to work independently and manage multiple shipments simultaneously.
  12. Ability to use time efficiently and to set challenging goals and objectives.

6.0 Work Conditions, Physical and/or Mental Requirements

  1. Sedentary physical activity requiring reaching, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, feeling, repetitive motions, talking, and hearing.
  2. Visual requirement is for close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  3. 90% or more time is spent looking directly at a computer.
  4. Employee is frequently required to stand, walk (or otherwise be mobile).
  5. Employee is frequently required to lift and carry a minimum of 15 pounds.
  6. Ability to deal with stressful situations as they arise.

Duties are primarily performed in an office environment. Minimal physical effort is required. Lifting and carrying requirements of up to 15 pounds. Occasional or frequent ability to move boxes from one location to another.
