Position Summary
Orlando Health has two Medical Director of Physician Informatics roles: these two directors will work collaboratively to ensure a seamless interface between inpatient and ambulatory workflows.

The Medical Director, Physician Informatics is a key leadership role responsible for advancing the clinical informatics strategy for Orlando Health’s ambulatory and inpatient services. This individual will collaborate with clinical, operational, and technical teams to optimize the use of electronic health record systems, streamline workflows, enhance patient care delivery, and support provider efficiency.
As a key liaison between clinical stakeholders and information technology teams, the Medical Director ensures that informatics initiatives align with organizational goals while prioritizing the practical needs of frontline clinicians and their patients. The position bridges the gap between technology and clinical care, ensuring that IT solutions are intuitive, effective, and enhance the overall healthcare experience.
Responsibilities
Clinical Informatics Leadership
Serves as the primary informatics lead for their respective area (e.g., inpatient, outpatient), providing strategic guidance and operational oversight
Drives the design, implementation, and optimization of clinical workflows within the EHR to enhance patient outcomes and provider efficiency
Stakeholder Collaboration
Partners with clinical leaders, operational teams, and IT staff to identify and prioritize informatics projects
Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to promote data-driven decision making and the effective use of clinical decision support tools
Education and Engagement
Educates and supports clinicians on informatics tools and best practices
Serves as a champion for change management, promoting adoption of new technologies and workflows
Participates in governance committees to represent informatics perspectives and priorities
Mentors and develops the physician informaticist program, ensuring they are equipped to support clinical areas effectively
Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures
Other Related Functions:
Part-time clinical practice required
Attends various Medical Executive/Medical Staff Committee meetings, Clinical Governance meetings, Epic leadership meetings as indicated and necessary
Any other functions as indicated by the ACMIO
Qualifications
Education/Training
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) required .
Epic Physician Builder Certification preferred .
Licensure/Certification
Maintains current MD or DO licensure in the State of Florida.
Experience
Minimum of 2 years of clinical practice experience, with a deep understanding of the healthcare delivery system.
Strong background in clinical workflow optimization, healthcare data analytics, and project management.
Skills and Competencies
Skilled in applying clinical informatics principles and using health information systems, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to clinicians.
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to engage with physicians, clinical staff, and executives.
Knowledge of regulatory standards and healthcare industry best practices.
Ability to foster a collaborative, innovative, and data-driven culture.
