WMC, Action News 5 in Memphis, Tennessee, is the NBC affiliate and legacy news station in the highly competitive Memphis market. The station focuses on community‑driven, in‑depth journalism and local partnerships, producing 46.5 hours of local programming on broadcast and over 100 hours on OTT, including nearly 60 NCAA Division I sporting events for ESPN Plus.
Job Summary
Action News 5 is looking for a dynamic anchor eager to work in a modern, fast‑paced newsroom. The ideal candidate will cover breaking news, tell compelling stories, and deliver the news across all platforms. Quality writing and on‑air delivery are essential.
Duties / Responsibilities
Appear on the anchor desk and deliver content engagingly in live linear or streaming formats.
Cover big breaking stories with fluid, often unscripted delivery.
Create engaging news packages that can air in all dayparts.
Develop community sources to ensure impactful and unique content.
Maintain flexibility in schedule, including mornings and weekends.
Qualifications / Requirements
At least 3 years of on‑air experience.
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field.
Strong news judgment and ability to gather information.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with solid knowledge of AP Style.
Ability to work well under pressure, meet daily deadlines, and handle limited supervision.
Highly self‑motivated with a proactive mindset and strong sense of initiative.
Familiarity with Canva, basic video editing tools, and social media scheduling platforms preferred.
Sharp eye for detail and willingness to learn new and evolving technologies.
Comfortable working independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
