Overview:

 

Works in conjunction with the Clinical Supervisor for that service. Performs the primary function of a Registered Nurse in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the care of their patients. Coordinates patient care in conjunction with other departments. Organizes and implements service in the assigned specialty area. Coordinates workflow in a timely efficient manner, including room set-up and turn-over, supplies and equipment needed prior to case start. Functions in a staff role as needed, including relief for breaks and lunches. Assists in department operational support tasks and duties. Assisting in orientation of new coworkers and permanent team members in conjunction with the Supervisor and the OR Nurse Clinician.

 

Mercy Hospital Southeast OR includes: General Surgery, 2 DaVinci Xis, Urology, Plastics, Gyn, Orthopedic, Neurosurgery and Cardiothoracic surgery. 

 

Periop 101 through AORN is offered for new registered nurses.

 

Our staff provides a comforting environment for patients that are undergoing a surgical procedure. We work alongside Preop staff, Anesthesia providers, Surgeons and recovery staff to safely provide care to patients needing an operation. 

Qualifications:

 

• Required Experience: Minimum of 1 year OR RN experience. In addition, proven leadership skills preferred.
• Required Education: Nursing Degree from an accredited school (BSN, Associate's Degree, or Diploma). BSN preferred.
• Licensure: C urrent RN license within the state of Missouri and/or compact licensure in which nursing duties are performed and must meet all state board of nursing requirements. 
• Required Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or successful completion of course within 30 days of hire. One or more of the certifications below may be required based on the position/unit hired to, or acquisition of certification within department required timeframe:
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • Other unit specific certifications as required. 
• Preferred Certifications: CNOR
• Other: Physical requirements/demands:
  • Position requires individuals to push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Position requires prolonged standing and walking each shift.
  • Position requires the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.
