Sales Tax Accountant

Location: Brentwood, TN (6 month Contract with Protentional for FTE)

Start Date: ASAP – March 17

Day to Day:

This position is responsible for reporting, verification, and filing of sales tax and misc. tax returns in multiple taxing jurisdictions. This position will ensure all returns are filed timely and accurately and will assist, as needed, with audits for the tax types filed and research pertaining to sales, use, and misc. taxes.

Must-Have Qualifications:

Experience: Minimum of 2 years of sales tax experience in a corporate, government, or public accounting environment

Skills & Knowledge:

• General understanding of tax trends and processes
• Strong multi-tasking skills in a high-energy environment
• Detail-oriented, particularly in data entry and integrity
• Strong interpersonal, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel (Pivot Tables) and Word
• Self-starter with a proactive approach to daily activities
• Ability to research, audit, and analyze tax-related data
• Knowledge of sales tax audits

Preferred Qualifications (Pluses):

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
• Experience with SAP software
• Experience with XLOOKUP or VLOOKUP in Excel
• Familiarity with reading and researching tax legislation

Key Responsibilities:

Tax Compliance (60-70%)

• Prepare and file sales tax and miscellaneous tax returns across multiple jurisdictions
• Ensure timely and accurate filings while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations
• Prepare accounting entries and account reconciliations to balance General Ledger accounts
• Monitor tax rate changes and update tax rate files on a monthly basis
• Process incoming tax notices and tax bills

Customer & Store Support (30-40%)

• Assist in addressing tax-related inquiries from stores and customers
• Research and correctly configure tax items within the system
• Maintain and analyze detailed schedules of store and customer tax issues
