Job Summary

As a Summer Intern, you will support the estimating team in developing cost proposals and project bids for heavy civil construction projects. This internship offers the opportunity to learn how construction costs are developed, gain experience with industry software, and contribute to bid preparation alongside experienced estimators.

• Assist with quantity takeoffs and preliminary cost estimates by reviewing project drawings, specifications, and documentation.
• Support the bid preparation process, including organizing bid documents, compiling subcontractor/vendor quotes, and participating in bid reviews.
• Learn to use estimating software such as HCSS HeavyBid/Trimble Bid2Win, Agtek/Trimble Business Center, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam Revu under supervision.
• Help research pricing for materials, equipment, and labor to support accurate and competitive bids.
• Shadow team members during client, vendor, and subcontractor interactions to understand the coordination process.
• Participate in maintaining accurate documentation of estimates, bids, and project files.
• Collaborate with project management, engineering, and operations teams to gain exposure to the full project lifecycle from bid to execution.

Qualifications

• Actively pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
• Strong interest in the heavy civil construction industry and estimating career path.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Office Suite (coursework or prior experience).
• Exposure to construction drawings or estimating software (preferred but not required).
• Strong analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work in a team environment and contribute to multiple projects.
