Tax Preparer

At SMD Consulting & Accounting, LLC , a boutique CPA firm in Plano, Texas, we provide luxury-level tax consulting, advisory, and bookkeeping to business owners, medical professionals, and video game developers. While our consultants focus on big-picture strategy, our tax preparers are the backbone who make sure every return is accurate, timely, and stress-free for our clients.
We’re looking for an experienced tax preparer who enjoys focusing on preparation work and supporting our tax team with related compliance tasks.
What You’ll Do
In this role, your main responsibility is preparing accurate tax returns—but you’ll also assist with related projects that keep our clients ahead of deadlines.
Your day-to-day will include:
Preparing individual, business, and trust tax returns with accuracy and attention to detail.
Reviewing client information for completeness and accuracy before filing.
Assisting with quarterly estimated tax payment calculations.
Supporting the team with tax research, projections, and compliance tasks.
Preparing responses or documentation for IRS and state notices.
Staying current on tax law updates and applying them to client work.
Assisting with process improvements that make tax prep smoother and more efficient.
What It Takes (Required Skills)
We’re looking for someone who brings:
2–5 years of tax preparation experience in public accounting or a tax-focused firm.
Strong knowledge of individual, partnership, and corporate tax.
Proficiency with tax preparation software and comfort learning new technology.
Excellent organizational skills and a love of details and deadlines.
Clear communication skills with teammates and clients.
Professionalism, accountability, and confidentiality in handling sensitive information.
A positive, flexible, team-oriented attitude.
What Will Set You Apart (Desired Skills)
EA, CPA, or active CPA Candidate.
Experience preparing trust and estate tax returns.
Background working with medical professionals, real estate investors, or small business owners.
Strong ability to explain tax matters to non-tax professionals.
